Do you handle parenting or custody disputes?
No. Our family law work is limited to property matters: property settlements and divorce. We do not act in parenting or children’s disputes.
Do you do legal aid family law work?
No, we do not undertake legal aid matters. We act in privately funded family law property settlements and divorces.
Do we need to wait a certain period after separating before organising a property settlement?
No, you do not need to wait. You can proceed with a property settlement as soon as you are ready to do so. In most cases it takes some time to value the assets to be divided and exchange disclosure documents with the other party. We recommend you resolve your property division as soon as you can, as time limits apply. Another benefit is that once it is done you can get on with the next phase of your life knowing where you stand, and not be affected by the decisions and values of your former partner.
Is mediation in family law a good way to proceed?
Mediation is a great way to try to resolve disputes wherever possible, enabling you to avoid the expense and stress of going to court. Getting detailed advice about your situation before you go to mediation is essential, so that you know the range of your entitlement before you try to reach agreement.
